Open WebUI Package Vulnerability: Potential File Access Elevation
An early warning has been issued regarding a potential vulnerability in the Open WebUI package that could allow an authenticated user to elevate read-only file access to write/delete permissions.
What happened
Reportedly, the Open WebUI package contains an incomplete fix where the validator only checks for read access, but write/delete routes trust any writable model containing the file ID. This appears to enable an authenticated user to upgrade read-only access to another user's file into write/delete access. The affected component is open webui (pypi) main, version 0.9.6. This issue is under investigation with tracked IDs GHSA-2XWM-4H2Q-GGFX and GHSA-VJQM-6GCC-62CR. Professional software engineers using this package should monitor for patches and consider upgrading to a fixed version once available. For more details, consult the primary sources.
