An early warning has been issued for a vulnerability in SeaweedFS that could allow cross-bucket object read due to improper handling of `..` path segments in the `X-Amz-Copy-Source` header.

What happened

An early warning has been issued for a vulnerability in SeaweedFS. The SeaweedFS S3 API gateway did not reject `..` path segments in the `X-Amz-Copy-Source` header, which could allow an attacker to read objects across different buckets. This vulnerability could lead to a confused-deputy authorization bypass that breaks bucket isolation. The vulnerability is tracked as CVE-2026-54917 and GHSA-56WQ-X3WV-3FF4.

The vulnerability affects SeaweedFS versions from 0.72.release to 4.33 inclusive. It has not been reported as exploited in the wild. The recommended action is to upgrade to version 4.34 or later to mitigate the vulnerability.
